The sounds were often limited in the woods, in that there was almost no birdlife, animal life or human activity, the distant sound of traffic and snow blowers could be heard, but hardly at all in the denser wooded areas.
Often the sound would be made by the odd passerby, (a quick Dzień Dobry, to break the ice with your fellow walker) a single bird in the trees or the sound of ice falling from the branches of the trees as the wind blew.
