This recording was made during the Malakta Sound Field Lab (maaheli.ee/main/malakta-sound-field-lab/), a sound workshop held in Malax Finland at the end of October 2016.
While making a demonstration on recording with hydrophones at the Baltic seaside, we heard some unusual shifts in sound textures coming from under the water. Upon closer observation we noticed there were schools of small fish swimming below the surface. It was too difficult to get a close up photo of the fish so the species could not be identified, but we are certain they were the origin go the sound. After recording for about 8 minutes the fish dispersed and so did the sound.

This is one of my favorite recordings from 2020. Really clear and patient work of acoustic ecology. Enveloping, transparent environments visited by wolf calls. billy gomberg
